Bridal makeup, from trial to ceremony

What the service includes

Makeup and hair are one booking, done by one person. That takes a handover out of the morning: nobody arrives halfway through to take over the hair, and the veil is pinned by whoever built the hairstyle, which is the moment a hairstyle usually comes apart. It also means the shape of the hair and the weight of the eye are decided together instead of being negotiated between two people who have never worked in the same room.

The booking covers you and anyone else you name in advance: a mother, a sister, bridesmaids, a groom who wants his skin evened out for the camera. Work happens either in the studio in Germasogeia or wherever you are getting ready, a hotel room or a villa. Both formats carry the same kit, and both end with a touch-up plan rather than a hope that nothing moves.

How the trial works and when to book one

A trial is a working session, not a preview. We go through the neckline of the dress, two looks you like and one you would hate, how your skin behaves by late afternoon, and whether lashes are worth it for your particular day. You leave with photographs taken in daylight and with a flash, and I keep a written plan: products, order of work, timings, and the things we decided against.

Four to eight weeks before the wedding is the useful window. Earlier and your skin, your hair length and sometimes your mind will have changed; later and there is no room left to redo anything. The wedding morning, hour by hour

Two to three hours for a bride who has had a trial, and thirty to forty minutes for each other person. Skin preparation first, then base and eyes, then hair set and pinned with the veil fitted while I am still in the room. The dress goes on, then lips, then one photograph before anyone hugs you. Brides go last wherever the schedule allows, because a face finished at eight in the morning reaches the ceremony with three hours of wear on it. The touch-up window is agreed when you book, usually a short slot between the photographs and the ceremony, or before the reception if the day runs long. Planned, it takes ten minutes. Improvised, it does not happen at all.

Studio in Germasogeia, or I come to you

The studio suits a trial, an evening look, and a morning where you are getting ready near Limassol and would rather leave the house. Everything is where I put it, the light is light I know, and there is nothing to load into a car. On location suits the wedding morning itself: you stay where the dress is hanging, the photographer knows where to find you, and nobody drives across town in wedding clothes. I travel anywhere on the island with the full kit, and an hour or more on the road only moves the start of the morning earlier.

Who else can be ready with you

Working alone I can prepare four to five people in one morning, the bride included. That is the honest number: past it the arithmetic stops working, since four people at forty minutes each is two and a half hours before the bride has sat down. For a larger party, say so when you book and a second pair of hands is arranged in advance, along with two chairs and two sockets instead of one. How long the look has to last, and how it does

A Cyprus wedding day starts in an air-conditioned room and moves outdoors above thirty degrees, then adds humidity, sea air, crying, and a flash camera that turns mineral sunscreen grey. What holds it is skin preparation and thin layers, not a setting spray at the end, and it gets tested at the trial on your skin in the month your wedding falls in. Where I work

Limassol is home, so a morning in Limassol and Germasogeia starts without a drive. Paphos is about an hour on the road and the east coast about an hour and a half, which changes the start time and nothing else: the two coasts are covered separately under bridal makeup in Paphos and weddings in Ayia Napa and Protaras. How far ahead to book, and what to send

A Saturday between May and October in Cyprus goes six to nine months ahead. Those are the dates everyone wants, and one morning cannot be held twice. Weekday dates, and anything between November and March, move much faster, sometimes inside a month. If your date is close, ask anyway: a date that looks impossible is often simply free.

• The venue and the ceremony time.
• Whether the ceremony is outdoors.
• How many people need makeup, and who also needs hair.
• Whether you want a trial, and roughly when you could come to Limassol for it.
